The
idea for the Simple Colors Series came about after doing some
simple compositions of an apple and crunched up lunch bags.
Their simplicity and loud punch of color in the apple next
to the neutral color of the lunch bag allowed them to make
a statement from across the room. Too often still-lifes are
too crowded making it hard for the viewer to know what to
focus on. The Simple Colors Series attempts to take away the
clutter and let simple color schemes and objects make an impact.
The objects I use for this series don't matter as much as
their simple shapes and colors. Since I don't have many knick-knacks,
most of the objects are things I use everyday. I also use
produce often because of their natural bold colors and simple
shapes not to mention their inherant decadence.
The series is done with lightfast colored pencils on archival
board made by Ampersand. They are protected with archival
varnish and uv spray and are framed just like an oil painting
or acrylic with no glass or matting.
