Coffee Grounds Series Artist's Statement To get back to the images of this series click here. The idea for the Coffee Grounds Series is simple: still-lifes with the common theme of coffee. The coffee mug is a simple shape which comes in different forms and colors. It is perfect for trying to come up with many arrangements; which of course are endless. I found that I was searching to find many different interesting subjects in my still-lifes that only related by a thin thread. After hanging a show with Colette Lucas and Liz Winchester Larson, who are very good still-life artists, I realized that I didn't have to have a different subject for every piece. Both Colette and Liz varied the placement and accessories to their arrangements but kept most of the subjects the same or similar, which made for a very nice cohesive group of work. So that is my goal with this series. To explore different arrangements of very simple objects. - Nicole Caulfield
