Caulfield
All my work is in the still-life genre. I try to infuse my pieces
with a softness that recalls peacefulness and a world without
the chaos that so many of our lives have. As a mother of 2 young
children, the world that I depict in my still-lifes only lasts
for a few short moments at a time: fine pottery laid out for
guests, unblemished fruit before it is eaten, and even those
new pair of shoes which have yet to be scuffed.
Colored Pencil's soft gradations, wonderful texture, and color
that can stand up to any oil painting make it the perfect medium.
It is also the ideal medium for the artist who lacks studio
space or the time to clean up after messy painting sessions.
I was reintroduced to the medium after my youngest daughter
was born almost 5 years ago, and it has fit well in my "stay-at-home-mom"
lifestyle. I can spread my pencils out on the dining table,
prop up my board and draw while my daughters are close by playing.
They even draw with me at the table and enjoy my pencils (and
sharpening them) as much as I do.
